You probably know how to respond when someone is experiencing a physical crisis, but do you know what to do in a mental health emergency? Like First Aid or CPR, Mental Health First Aid is an important tool that enables you to help in a crisis situation and provide critical support until other treatment is available.

Alternatives, one of Central Massachusetts’ leading human service providers, is inviting all school personnel, clergy, and other interested members of the community to attend a training on Mental Health First Aid on Thursday, September 18 and Friday, September 19, 2014

The two-day training will be held from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Singh Performance Center, 60 Douglas Road, Whitinsville, MA. It will be led by led by certified Mental Health First Aid trainers. All participants will receive a Mental Health First Aid Manual and those who successfully complete the course will receive certification in Mental Health First Aid.

Early intervention is known to produce the most effective treatment for mental health issues and Mental Health First Aid training can help you recognize the signs that someone is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. It also provides strategies on how to deliver immediate support, de-escalate crisis situations, and encourage appropriate treatment.
