BiZ Imprints makes a big impression

By Janet Stoica

BiZ Imprints & Graphics in Dudley is certainly more than your usual digital printing shop. Owner Arvind Basil’s new retail store, which opened in January, offers watch repair and battery replacement, a notary service, a while-you-wait passport/green card photo service, and fine cigars.

The store also provides a clothing alterations service - an on-site tailor can do a simple slacks re-hemming to a refitting of bridal gowns and suits. Finally, Biz Imprints is the exclusive bio-safe drapery cleaner for the UMass/Memorial Hospital System’s three campuses.

Arvind is a man of many talents who is graphically imaginative and a sincere businessman. He and his wife Anita have twin daughters who graduated at the top of their class at Holy Cross College, will complete medical school training at month’s end, and have their practices set up in southeast Massachusetts. His son, who attends a local high school, will graduate next year with his goal set on the legal profession.

Mr. Basil and his family are from India originally. Years ago, his son required medical attention and the family came to Massachusetts to obtain the needed medical care. All is now well for his son.

When still in India, Arvind was a construction manager, belonged to the Lions Club, and for five years, volunteered with Mother Teresa (now St. Teresa of Calcutta). “A truly amazing woman,” he said. “Whatever she needed done, we did.  From making meals, delivering meals, and helping the poor as best we could.”

Arvind established and sold several successful local businesses before bringing BiZ Imprints & Graphics to Dudley, most recently the BiZ Mini Mart convenience store on Main Street in Oxford, which he closed at the end of last year. The relocation to Dudley provided the extra space needed for the digital imprint services.

“We can print on anything,” says Arvind, “you name it and we’ll do it. Just about any fabric type, metals, glass, ceramic.  We can computer- design and create to your specs. We’ll brainstorm, come up with ideas, and our customer will approve the final copy.”

The hardware that Arvind uses is extensive: laser printers, heat transfer systems, screen printers, and rotary engravers. He can print and grommet banners sized 4-1/2 feet high by 270 feet long while also printing simpler items like address labels, all types of business cards, and tee shirts. He’ll likewise work with auto body shops, creating and tailoring custom-designed car and van wraps. He has completed canvas mesh designs of every type, including exhibition booth signage. Embroidery designs are a specialty in the shop too.

His laser printing machine will create layouts on both glossy and matte finishes.  A sublimation printer can transfer designs to most any hard surface: glassware, trophies, name tags, coffee mugs, plates, and pens. His screen-printing press is complete with micro-adjustment aligners, allowing 100% accuracy of multi-color printing, thereby preventing bleeding, overlapping, and smudging of paint.

Intricate printing detail is his strength. “We can digitize photos onto shirt material -  always a big hit with family reunions or employee gatherings,” said Arvind. “The ink we use is fade-proof to 75 washings. Again, we can print on hoodies, pillow covers, and shoes (even wedding shoes).  I can print on anything but liquid! Polyester, which is a fabric that most printers won’t touch, can be printed on with our systems’ capabilities. Our prices are economical as our overhead is low. Actually, any high school graphics or art class can call me to arrange a tour to demonstrate some of our processes. As a matter of fact, I’ve just offered an internship here to Bay Path Vocational High School.”
