CHARLTON: The Town of Charlton will hold its next Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection day on Saturday, September 26, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Casella Waste Services Facility on 165 Barefoot Road, Southbridge.
Acceptable materials include oil-based paint; pesticides/herbicides; cleaning products; household batteries; thinners/strippers/removers/solvents; acids/bases; automotive oil/antifreeze/gasoline; stains/preservatives; mercury; fluorescent lights; photo chemicals; small electronics; and yard waste (leaves, brush or shrubs).
The following materials will NOT be accepted: commercial, construction and demolition waste; recycling/cardboard; propane tanks; car and truck batteries; bulky furniture or mattresses; food or household trash; latex paint; car and truck tires; metal; asbestos, PCBs, explosives or shock-sensitive materials; ammunition, compressed gas cylinders; radioactive, pathological or infectious waste; or medicine.
A fee of $20 will be charged for each small appliance, such as computer monitors; refrigerators; dehumidifiers; televisions; air conditioners; water coolers; or freezers.
The cost of disposal is $30 per ½ car and $50 per full car. Vouchers to cover the fee are available to residents and can be picked up at the Board of Health office inside the Town Hall.
Proof of residency is required and no pre-registration is necessary.
Masks or face coverings must be worn and residents must be prepared to unload their vehicles.
