“It will be a lot of fun with the family,” says Church Administrator Nancy Norberg, describing the St. Denis Church Family Fun Day & Community Yard Sale planned for May 20 in Douglas. “We tried this for the first time last year, and did well with it. This year we have more people in charge of different activities, so it’s growing.”
Nancy said there will be more games for the kids, including face painting and Disney characters. The kids will be able to pet adoptable greyhound rescue dogs and explore Douglas fire and police vehicles.
The dunking tank will also be back, said Nancy. It seems it was one of the more popular activities last year. “Deacon Mike was in the dunking tank and it was really cold. We had filled it with cold water that morning – this year we plan to fill it the night before so it won’t be so icy in the morning.” People had to pay $1 for a ball to hit the target to dunk the deacon, and $5 if you wanted to skip that part and just tip it. “We had more and more people just give us the $5 – it was a lot of fun.”
Hungry people will be able to buy hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, and baked goods. The Boy Scouts will be providing cotton candy.
Guess the number of noodles in the noodle jar and win a gift certificate to Hannafords, or try your chances with the raffles.
The community yard sale will include a variety of vendors. Those wishing to offer goods for sale but not buy a table can donate them for the St. Denis Church sale table.
St. Denis Church is at 23 Manchaug Street in Douglas. The Family Dun Day and Community Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.saintdenischurch.com or call 508-476-2002.
