A&E “Intervention” success story
John Golden, who achieved sobriety ten years ago through an intervention orchestrated by his family, has made it his mission in life to help others by sharing his story. Golden will talk about his recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism at the April 11 meeting of the Families Helping Families support group.
A Massachusetts native, Golden appeared in the second season of the A&E television show “Intervention.” He was sent to Louisiana for treatment – three months in rehab and six months in sober living – and two years later returned to Boston. He now lives in Northborough.
Families Helping Families was founded last year by three local women who saw the need for a support group for families whose loved ones are struggling with addiction and alcoholism. The group provides information about local resources and offers realistic advice, hope, and hugs to family members.
The group has reached out to Webster and Dudley police and fire departments and the local schools to make them aware of this resource for families of addicts.
Families Helping Families meets every other Monday evening from 6:30 -8:00 at the Dudley Senior Center, bottom floor of the Dudley Municipal Building at 71 W. Main Street. For more information, call Maureen and 508-981-4902, Karen at 774-230-6040, or Pam at 774-200-4261. Meetings are confidential and attendees can remain anonymous.
