Jeanne’s Hair Loft marks 30 years on Main Street

By Janet Stoica

The main goal of Jeanne Makara and her coworker, Sharon Whalen, is to get the word out to all current and prospective clients that Jeanne’s Hair Loft strives to be a true family hair-care shop. No drama here, but a well-kept and nicely put together hair cuttery that is celebrating its 30-year anniversary in the same location on Webster’s Main Street for all those years. They are a clean-cut (no pun intended), family-oriented business in their mannerisms, behavior, and certainly their hair styles.

“Being located across the street from Mapfre Insurance has brought us many loyal customers over the years who have also referred us to their coworkers,” said Jeanne. “It’s nice to meet new customers and to style their hair to make them feel great and happy.”

The shop is doing very well and is currently looking for two more stylists who want to make a new home in a great Main Street location. Jeanne has just spent thousands of dollars renovating the establishment and looks forward to sharing her bright and clean place with two additional coworkers. “We also have a nice downstairs area that would be very suitable for a massage therapist or esthetician,” Jean stated, “and this is a really great location midway on Main with a nice traffic flow.

As one of Sharon’s customers, Stephanie Boyce, was having her hair styled, Stephanie’s 11-year old son, David, who had accompanied her to the shop, was happy to voice his opinion “I enjoy coming here for my haircuts, I like the music and videos, even the comfortable chairs. Jeanne and Sharon are cool.”

The Hair Loft has a small activity area for children, with a table and chairs along with toys and books and an extensive children’s video library that would charm any child’s imagination. “We want the whole family to feel welcome here,” said Sharon, “I’ve been working here for 14 years and it’s been great fun. Jeanne and I are very loyal to each other and are here for our customers’ needs. We both have over 30 years of experience. I used to work in “hair factories” where my hours were from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. nonstop. I’m so glad to be here now as my customers are like family. I trust Jeanne. Her personality and heart shine through in everything she does.”

Jeanne’s other activities include being a Deacon at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dudley, where she very much enjoys and appreciates her responsibilities with the congregation. Her outlook on life, honesty, and customer loyalty no doubt has been well formed because of her compassionate service.

Prices at Jeanne’s Hair Loft are very competitive. They extend Senior Citizens a 10% discount on Tuesday and Wednesday, and also offer discounts to college students. Shampoos, conditioners, and other hair treatment products are offered at a 10% discount for 1 product, 20% off for 2, and 25% off for 3. The kids’ shampoos include some scrumptious choices like blueberry, coconut, and pineapple

Walk-ins are welcome. “We really enjoy seeing new customers,” said Jeanne..
