For as long as most Mendon residents can remember, when they needed flowers they headed to the Mendon Greenhouse on the Hastings Street section of Route 16. The business closed its doors at the end of September, when owner Colleen Oncay retired.
Oncay owned the business during the past three decades, and before that, it was owned and run by Dean Wiegers. During her ownership, Oncay was known for her generosity to local civic and community groups. She remains an active member of the Mendon Lions Club.
For now, the store is being rented by the nearby Bethany Community Church’s Blessing Barn to sell Christmas holiday decorations.
Mendon residents needing floral arrangements can still stay in town. Katydid Flowers is located in the Country Hills Plaza, just a few blocks up toward Uxbridge.
