Pastel Workshop

Saturday, September 12, 2015 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

Award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack presents an art workshop for adults, “Scarlet Poppies: Pastel Paint Like Georgia O’Keeffe,” at the Whitinsville Social Library on Saturday, September 12th from 10 am -noon.

This pastel painting workshop is designed for sheer beginners to experienced artists. Participants will freely experiment with hundreds of the artist’s professional grade pastels, pastel pencils, and pastel paper, in this fun pastel painting workshop.

Students focus on O’Keeffe’s famous poppy paintings and Maichack’s pastel versions, and work in tandem with the artist utilizing techniques O’Keeffe used in her paintings. Maichack will demonstrate the essentials of painting with pastels. Scumbling, feathering, blending, slurring, edges, and layering will be taught in this direct tactile medium of pure and nuanced color. All take home their original pastel painting.

About the Artist: Gregory John Maichack lives in western Holyoke. He is a portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels. Maichack is a faculty member at the Museum Studio School in the Fine Arts Museum Quadrangle in Springfield, MA and also teaches at Greenfield and Holyoke Community Colleges in their adult continuing education departments.
