About the book:

“The Phoenix Syndrome” is a contemporary romance/women’s fiction that begins in Boston before moving to the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, N.Y. Lannie Marvin, a technician in a pharmaceutical research lab, gives mid-life crisis a whole new meaning. On her fortieth birthday, she learns her husband is leaving her, and then suffers a bite at work from one of the lab mice. Veering off course, Lannie bolts for Bethel to chase an old dream of a career in music, along with the object of her latest crush—the drummer of a heavy metal band. Just when it seems she may have found the path to a new road in life, reality hits: Lannie discovers the lab mice have gone deaf.

In 2014, this manuscript was named winner in the women’s fiction category of FCRWA’s Beacon Contest.
