Sneakerama: For the Long Run

by Magda Dakin

Ah Spring, it’s finally here!  It makes you want to lace up your sneakers and enjoy the beautiful weather, take the dog out for a walk, or get in some last minute training before running the Boston Marathon.

If you strap on those sneakers and they don’t fit just right it’s time for a trip to Sneakerama in Worcester.  For more than 30 years and three generations this family owned business has been committed to providing the highest quality products, professional personal service and great prices.

As part of its commitment to serious runners, Sneakerama hosts a weekly fun run at 6:00 p.m. every Thursday night starting and ending at their 12 Lake Ave. location. Open to all ages and levels, it’s a great way to get active in a low pressure environment.  As an added bonus, seven-time marathon winner Barbara McManus of the Central Mass Striders will be running with the group. Several Sneakerama staff members will also be present to answer questions and assist runners.

At Sneakerama they know active footwear!  Vanessa Genatossio, store manager and daughter of owner Steve Genatossio, says the trained staff takes pride in helping their customers get exactly what they need.  Sneakerama has by far the largest selection of styles and sizes to satisfy any active footwear need.  Whether you are as narrow as 2A, or as wide as a 6E, Sneakerama has your width, and if they have to special order it in it doesn’t cost extra.  In fact the largest shoes they’ve ordered were 17EE, almost big enough for the old woman who lived in a shoe.

A trip to Sneakerama starts with being greeted by a friendly staff member who asks a few questions to get an idea of what you need and want.  Many of the customers come in with prescriptions from their foot doctors and podiatrists to be expertly fitted. Most foot specialists in the local Worcester area work with Sneakerama to help their patients get their expert fittings. Once the team member has assessed your needs, they do a gait analysis to see what type of foot you have and how your body distributes pressure. Then they recommend the best fitting shoes for your foot type.  If you have a prescription, the manufacturer-trained staff members will fulfill it expertly. Their goal is to fit you perfectly and make you happy. As Vanessa says, “When buying footwear, especially sneakers, the fit is absolutely crucial.  An ill-fitting shoe can have long lasting effects and hurt your entire body.”

In addition to a huge selection of colorful active footwear, Sneakerama also carries a line of active clothing and top of the line active sandals to fit the needs of both the casual and serious runners.  Their return policy is incredible, extremely lenient, completely in line with their goal of making every client happy.  It’s rare to find a place where you get such service and attention to detail, an awesome return policy and at a price below the manufacturers’ suggested retail pricing.
