Wide World of Indoor Sports to launch trampoline court

By Amy Palumbo-LeClaire

Imagine, this summer, finding ways to stay active and burn beach-body calories while having hours of free, unadulterated fun, the kind of fun that makes you want to jump for joy. Imagine being free and light on your feet, as though you’re walking on air. North Smithfield’s Wide World of Indoor Sports has your vision covered.

On June 17, the state-of-the-art indoor sports facility will launch a new, top-of-the-line trampoline court that not only holds a whopping seventy-six jumpers, but also has three unique jumping areas.

For the more competitive jumper, there is a Dodge Ball area designed for small groups to enjoy an airborne game of ball bopping; for the sharp-shooter who’s all about net, the court features a spacious Basketball section; and finally, for the no-nonsense jumper who simply wants to bounce, there is an Air Bag section. The trampoline court, additionally, is divided into sections so that groups of families and/or friends can co-jump together.

Jumping age restrictions? None. Anyone and everyone who wants to let loose, let their hair down, and take their shoes off can join in on the squeaky-clean trampoline fun.  Although there is no age limit for the court, safety procedures are numerous (found at wideworldofindoorsports.com) and prioritized by constant adult supervision, television monitors, and the requirement to wear special socks padded with rubber friction. Colored wrist bands are used to indicate paid ‘jump times’ (sold in one hour or ½ hour blocks) and lockers are available to house sneakers and belongings. Summer rates will be discounted at $6.00 for a half-hour and $10.00 for the full hour

Furthermore, parents waiting for their children to finish a scheduled practice or clinic on one of the other five fields (WW of Indoor Sports holds leagues for soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball, flag football, field hockey, and ultimate frisbee) can take advantage of the jumping opportunity for siblings who may, otherwise, be impatient.

Built in 2008, the North Smithfield, Rhode Island, indoor sports facility (located conveniently on 621 Pound Hill Road, directly off the Pound Hill Road exit, heading south on route 146) is a business partnership owned by Dan Fawcett, Stephen and Sandie Sangermano, and NATCO Home Products.

“We opened up an indoor trampoline facility in our Montville, Connecticut, location (www.naskart.com) and it did well,” said Fawcett.  “We have always been thinking of ways to generate business during the off-season, so said, ‘let’s try a trampoline park here in Rhode Island.’ We’re hoping to offer the public more of a year-round destination, to bring a steady flow of business.”

Incidentally, Wide World of Indoor Sports holds dog shows during the off-season summer months, which feature agility training and canine competitions.

Their summer trampoline hours are as follows:

  • Monday through Thursday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday: 11a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Prospective trampoline jumpers may fill out a waiver form on-line at wideworldofindoorsports.com prior to arrival in order to jump right into the action!
