Our summer reading theme is “Read, Renew, Repeat”!  For this hands-on craft program we’ll be making beautiful flowers out of old book pages and creating a statement display piece with them. For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration is required. 


An Evening with Neurologist/Neuroscientist/Author Dr. Andrew Budson: Why We Forget and Steps to Managing Memory, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Dementia

Dr. Budson will discuss managing issues with memory, language, vision, behavior, driving, incontinence, sleep, and more.  Also learn how to distinguish changes in memory due to Alzheimer’s versus normal aging, what medications, diet, and exercise regimes can help, and the best habits, strategies, and memory aids to use. Learn some tricks and techniques that everyone can use to improve their memory. This talk is part of the Dementia Friendly Charlton initiative. Registration is requested.

Edible Wild Plants and Fungi of Autumn

Thursday, August 29, 6:30 - 8:00 - Dexter Hall - Registration required

Learn how to identify, sustainably harvest, and prepare the wild foods of autumn, from acorns through minty wintergreen leaves, including golden honey mushrooms and maitake, the “dancing mushroom”. Join The 3 Foragers as they teach the edible plants and fungi of autumn with their original photos and recipe ideas in an educational slideshow. The 3 Foragers are a family from southeastern Connecticut and they have worked with over 150 libraries, nature centers, summer camps, garden clubs, land trusts, and private citizens to learn the wild edible plants and fungi of Southern New England since 2016. All are welcome. Registration required.

40 local artists, of all ages and skill levels, worked together to complete a 50’ art display created by professional artist Lisa Kretchman.  Lisa’s original design for the project celebrates the natural beauty found in and around Dudley. 

Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
